About Edla
The owner and operater of Edla's Yarns, Edla Hurley (nee Jacobsen), was born and raised in the remote, and beautiful, Faroe Islands.

There, a simple, and old way of life meant that she learned everything needed for village life including how to assist sheep farmers, how to prepare traditional meals, cultural dance, and how to knit. All from a very early age.

The climate in the Faroe Islands can be very cold, so knitting with heavy wool (from local sheep) was essential to everyday life. It was needed by the families at home, and also the men who went to sea. Many young girls would be required to complete some knitting each day before going out to play. Others would put their knitting under their arms and knit while playing.

The Faroe Islands are a unique blend of very old and very new. So, though she grew up within an old-fashioned community, by her teens and twenties Edla was as modern as they come. Edla has always had a flair for style and an enthusiasm for life that she brings to her store now.

At Edla's Yarns, Edla has blended the old and the new, tradition with fun, and in the process has created an inviting place where women and men of all ages can come to learn and find a wealth of their favorite supplies for knitting and crocheting. These include yarns ranging from natural wools, to inexpensive staples, to the anything-but-ordinary fine, funky, and fabulous new yarns that her customers love so much.

The daughter of a teacher herself, and a woman who carried on the knitting tradition with her own children, Edla knows just how to create a comfortable and fun environment for her students while using teaching techniques that are generations old.
